Systers Pass It On Award Application

The Systers Pass It On Awards honor Anita Borg’s desire to create a network of women technologists helping one another. The cash awards are intended to support women seeking their place in the fields of technology. The program is called “Pass It On” because it comes with the moral obligation to “pass on” the benefits gained from the award.

Pass It On Awards applications are open to any woman over 18 years old in or aspiring to be in the fields of computing. Awards are $500.00. Applications covering a wide variety of needs and projects are encouraged, such as:

- Help with studies
- Job transfers or other transitions in life
- Broader projects that benefit girls and women
- Projects that seek to inspire more girls and women to go into the computing field
- Assistance with educational fees and materials
- Mentoring and other supportive groups for women in technology or computing

Brief description of project*

Projects are expected to benefit one or more women or girls in an activity related both to the field of computing and to being a woman. We expect the project to have some lasting effect. We will not fund purchases of food or gifts, and we do not contribute to other organizations. We do fund equipment, educational costs, conference costs, books, supplies for hands-on activities and other expenses related to activities involving computing technology. Letter of Reference

Please provide a letter from someone who is familiar with your planned project and with your past accomplishments, such as a teacher, employer or colleague. The letter of reference will need to be sent electronically on letterhead. The letter should contain the referral’s contact information, so that we may request paper verification, if necessary.

Electronic letters should be emailed to Systers PIO at passiton@anitab.org and must be received by the deadline no later than 11:59 p.m. PDT on July 8, 2022. Only applications with referral letters will be considered.

INFORMATION ABOUT PERSON WRITING REFERRAL LETTER
The person who will be writing your referral letter will be asked the following questions:

1. How do you know the applicant?
2. How long have you known the applicant?
3. How are you affiliated with the project?
4. What are the strengths of the project?
5. Why are you recommending that this person, and their project, receive this award? Please include any pertinent information you feel you should add.

Make it easy to supply the required references. Please enter the email address of the person whom you are relying on to provide documents that support your application, including a letter of reference, photos, and other materials that shows you have a plan to implement your project. The recipient should look for an email with a request for the required materials.
